The ultimate gift guide for fantasy book readers

If you're looking for the perfect gift for a fantasy book lover, or if you’re a fantasy reader yourself and you want to treat yourself – then you’ve come to the right place!

I am the BIGGEST fan of fantasy books, and I would love to be gifted any single one of the options on this list – in fact, many of these ideas are taken from my own personal Christmas list! Although we have focused on the fantasy book genre, a lot of these ideas would work for reads of any genre!

So – here are my top fifteen gift ideas for fantasy book lovers:

1. A Kindle Unlimited subscription.

This will give them access to thousands of fantasy books to read for a monthly fee. I have saved so much money by reading books on KU, and discovered loads of authors and even new genres I probably wouldn’t have explored otherwise.

You can get your first 3 months for free by signing up here.

2. Mugs.

I don’t know if it’s just me who is obsessed with mugs, but my cupboard is bursting full of them. It’s become a bit of a running joke that I can’t go into any shop that sells home décor without at least considering buying a new mug. Of course, I also have to test all our mug designs – so I have pretty much our entire bookish mug collection at home too.

We have a bunch of mug designs inspired by popular fantasy series, like this Suriel tea co mug (which we guarantee will be a hit in the SJM community – the Suriel is the fandoms spooky bestie) as well as more generic bookish mugs such as this Death by TBR design.

Check out the full collection here.

3. A subscription to a fantasy book box that delivers a new release and other book-related goodies each month.

New books and merch every month? This one is a no-brainer! It’s such a fun surprise to unbox and I personally feel like its my birthday every time I get a new delivery!

You can either go for a “book only” subscription – which will be a bit cheaper, or a full box subscription which will contain the book of the month (these are exclusive signed, special editions, usually with character art, author letters and other fun additions) and a selection of literary merch. We’ve seen prints, bookmarks, book-ends, book sleeves, pins, mugs, socks and loads of other things being included!

My favourite book subscription boxes are Fairyloot and Illumicrate but they do have a waitlist.

Some others to check out are Dryad Book Box, Lit Joy Crate, and Owlcrate.

Lit Joy and Owlcrate are U.S companies though – so expect higher shipping if you’re in the UK!

4. T-shirts.

Another really popular bookish gift is t-shirts.

Literary t-shirts are the perfect way for readers to show off their love for their favourite books or genres.

Our t-shirts feature magical designs and quotes from our favourite books, such as this “Fireheart” t-shirt inspired by Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas.

We also have lots of generic bookish t-shirts, like this “You had me at morally grey” shirt, or this “book dragon” tee.

5. A collectible edition of their favourite fantasy book, such as a signed copy or a first edition.

All the book subscription boxes mentioned above also have shops where you can buy individual special editions.

I have also found great special editions in Waterstones and Forbidden Planet – or you can do some digging in rare-book stores or online auctions for rarer versions.

6. Stickers.

Decorate kindles, notebooks, laptops, or anything else with our fantasy-themed stickers. They're a fun and affordable gift option.

Check out our collection here.

7. A gift card to their favourite bookstore, so they can choose their next adventure.

8. Bookmarks.

Every book lover needs a good bookmark, and many of ours feature designs inspired by popular fantasy series.

Check out our collection here.

9. Redesigned dust jackets for their favourite books.

If they already own one (or multiple) copies of their favourite books, why not pick out some redesigned dust jackets.

There are so many small businesses that create beautifully designed dust covers for popular fantasy books!

Some of my favourites are: Juniper Books, https://nerdy.ink/ A Touch of Magic Designs, Books Know No Age and The Dusty Shop.

10. Keyrings.

Our keyrings make a great gift for the fantasy fan who has everything. They're small, but still show off their love of their favourite series.

11. A board game or card game based on a popular fantasy series, such as Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings.

12. Kindle case or accessories.

I love covering my kindle in bookish stickers, but I know some people prefer a different look. There are so many options out there for kindle cases, pop-sockets, and stands that would make great gifts for an e-reader!

13. Tickets to a bookish event.

This might take some digging – but there are tons of bookish events out there! For example – lots of bookstores host events. Waterstones hosts regular events such as talks and signings in towns and cities across the UK. Other options are a fantasy ball (yes they are real – and they look AWESOME), ren-fairs, and conventions (such as the Young Adult Literature Convention in London).

14. A bookish tote bag.

Tote bags are a practical and stylish way to carry your books around, and ours feature fantastical designs that any book lover will appreciate.

Shop our collection of tote bags here.

15. A gift card to their favourite bookish shop so they can choose their own merch.

We offer gift cards here.

No matter what you choose, any of these items would make a great gift for the fantasy book reader in your life.
